Invitation to the Extraordinary General Assembly of St. Archangel Gabriel Parish, Richmond Hill, ON

Dear brothers and sisters,

Dear parishioners,

We are honoured to invite you to this extraordinary assembly of the St. Archangel Gabriel Serbian Orthodox Parish in Richmond Hill.

The assembly will be held on Sunday, 27 November 2016, following the Hierarchal Holy Liturgy, at 12:30pm at the Parish hall located at 49 North Lake Rd, Richmond Hill. The parish assembly will be attended by the Bishop of Canada, His Grace Dr. Mitrophan. This assembly will be held to review the financial situation of the parish.

We kindly ask you to participate in this assembly, since we need to address the crucial problem of the financial situation of our parish, which impacts our plans for building a new church, and even the future of our parish as such. Therefore, please join the assembly with resoluteness and the aim to be effective.

We ask you to thoroughly review all of the enclosed documents. With God’s help, at this assembly we shall chart out the path for the future advancement of our Parish, enabling its robust growth and development.

In the hope that this assembly will be fruitful, we greet you most sincerely.

Charity Status Reinstated!

Dear Parishioners, Friends and Supporters of St. Archangel Gabriel Orthodox Church,

Glory to God for all things!

We have great news to share with you: by God’s grace, our CRA charitable status has been reinstated! You can find the details at the CRA website (click here for the link).

It has been a struggle to gather all of the information that was requested, correct the errors and omissions made before and knock on all the doors we knew and could to get this matter straightened out. By God’s mercy, our prayers have been heard and efforts rewarded.

We will be able, once again, to provide you all with valid tax receipts for all of your contributions not only from this date onward, but also retroactively for all the contributions you have given us since our charitable status has been revoked, both through 2015 and 2016.

Also, this would be a good time, if you have had any problems with getting the tax receipts from the parish, to provide us with your correct and up-to-date contact information (address and telephone at least, email too, etc.), as well as with your record of contributions if we have not summed up your contributions correctly. Please write to us at office@arhangelgavrilotoronto.com .

We thank you kindly for your generosity through these difficult months and, more importantly, for the trust you have shown to the parish boards and the love you have for our community of Faith.

Through the prayers of the Holy Theotokos, Lord Jesus Christ our God have mercy on us and save us! Amen.

School Slava on St. John the Theologian’s day October 9th

On Sunday October 9th (September 26th old style) our parish school will be commemorating their patron St. John the Theologian.

The kumovi of the Slava will be Siniša and Ana Cvetković who will prepare the Kolach and Kolliva. Following the Holy Liturgy, our school children will break the Kolach together with the kumovi and fr. Vasilije in the chapel.

After that, in addition to the agápē meal provided by the kumovi, pizza, cake and other snacks and sweets will also be served for all of the children of our parish to enjoy that day, along with music and games.

Finally, for this special event, due to the very enthusiastic response from our classroom, we decided to also prepare a show of our talents, which will include performing the songs from the previous plays, as well as individual performances: playing instruments, singing, reciting.

Those interested to participate should reach out to Zoran Radisic directly.

Looking forward to see you on Sunday!

Our CSS commemorate Ss. Faith, Hope, Love and their mother Sophia

Our Circle of Serbian Sisters commemorated on Friday September 30th (September 17th old stile) their patron Saints day, Holy Martyrs Faith, Hope, Love and their mother Sophia.

That day Fr. Vasilije celebrated the Holy Liturgy in the morning, and later in the evening led our parish through the Akathist prayer to the Holy Martyrs Faith, Hope, Love and their mother Sophia. Following the prayers Fr. Vasilije broke the Slavksi Kolach with this years’ kuma Snežana Medjedović, who also prepared the Kolach and Kolliva for that occasion.

Following the prayers, our parishioners gathered at the church hall for an agápē  meal that was prepared by combined efforts of the kumovi and the entire Circle of Serbian Sisters. Needless to say, the food was great and the entire evening was pleasant for everyone who came.

Next year’s kumovi will be Branka Stojšić and her family.
